Tryouts – January

Physical Testing and on-court assessments are a critical part of tryouts (check schedule for your age group).

Registration for the Regional Competitive Training Centre (CTC) opens in December and closes 1 week before tryouts begin in mid-January. Late entries are not accepted.

Ages. The Regional CTC is for 11U – 17U athletes (2007-2013)

Multiple sessions. There are multiple tryout sessions for each age group and gender. Athletes should attend all sessions for their age group to ensure they can be properly and fairly evaluated.

Safety Net. Those who are not selected for the Regional Training Centre, are not guaranteed any spots in our learn-to-play or recreational division. The LTP and Rec programs typically sell out very quickly, so, if the athlete is passionate about continuing at another level, we recommend registering for a program as well as for tryouts. If the athlete gets an offer for the Training Centre, you can contact us to cancel the program and transfer the funds to your Training Centre account.

THE PROCESS

IMPORTANT: Make sure your registration information includes a valid email address that you check regularly.

Once you register for tryouts, your email address becomes part of our communication network through TeamSnap. Make sure you include any @maverickvolleyball.ca email addresses plus <donotreply@email.teamsnap.com> to your trusted contact list, so messages from us don’t get dumped into your junk folder.

Below are the current tryout numbers and spots available for the different 2024 Training Centre groups:

16/17UB: 39 athletes trying out, ~25 spots available
15/16UG: 66 athletes trying out, 20-25 spots available
14/15UB: 52 athletes trying out, ~20 spots available
13/14UG: 129 trying out, ~30 spots available
11/12UM: 51 trying out, 12-24 spots available

Registration

Do not register the same athlete for more than one age group. The designated age category is based on a player’s birth date, however, an extended date range allows some players to try to play up or down a level, based on the best fit for athlete development. During tryouts, your coach can make recommendations if they feel a player should be in a more beneficial age group than the year of birth indicates.

Registration is closed for 2024, and will reopen in December 2024 for the 2025 season.

Successful contenders will be expected to attend two practices per week. The first four weeks will consist of intense coaching and drills with some scrimmages. The next eight weeks consist of one practice night and one game night.

TRYOUT REFUNDS

We realize that family schedules sometimes conflict, or that injuries may happen at an inopportune time, forcing athletes to forgo tryouts.

Full refunds are available until two weeks before tryouts, no refunds after that.
