Mavs4Fun – Charity Fundraisers

Typically run twice per season by one or more of our 17U teams, this event is a major donation drive to benefit the Ottawa Food Bank. The host team solicits donations of money and unopened non-perishable food and goods (diapers, soap, toiletries) and brings them to the FoodBank.

It is a fundraising opportunity for a Maverick team (or teams) to host the event by organizing the registrants, scheduling games, arranging for food and prizes, and generally making it a fun day for everyone!

• Typically three levels of play: Recreational, Competitive, and Elite.
• Drinks and snacks available on site for purchase
• Everyone is welcome: players, coaches, friends, family, neighbours – all age groups! Just sign up when registration opens.

The Winter Holiday Mavs4Fun event takes place when Maverick alumni are expected to be home for the winter holidays (sometime between Dec 18 and January 5). It gives families something fun and active to do over the break while helping the Ottawa FoodBank stock up their shelves!

The Mavs Spring4Fun event takes place in the Spring, sometimes after Nationals are over to give competitive athletes a break from the intensity of provincial and national competitions. Also a fundraiser for the Ottawa FoodBank, this event is usually hosted by the same team that hosted in the winter.

• Don’t forget: to bring canned goods or other non-perishable items for our Food Bank donation (if you choose to send money directly to the Ottawa Food Bank, we support that process and simply ask that you send along a copy of the receipt to <mavs4fun@gomaverick.ca> so we can track donations related to this event. Thanks for helping us be the reason someone smiles at mealtime by replenishing some of the shelves at the Ottawa Food Bank!

These events are an opportunity to celebrate mutual appreciation for Ottawa’s college and university level teams – the Algonquin Wolves and the Ottawa GeeGees!

These schools extend free admission for Mavs families to experience the excitement of post-secondary-level volleyball games, and we reciprocate by cheering the teams on with gusto!

Twice, sometimes three times during the volleyball season, they offer free registration to family and friends of Maverick players. Once registered, wearing your MavsWear will allow you faster entrance so we don’t create a traffic jam for the regulars.

Game dates will be advertised in TeamSnap and our e-newsletter. When you see registration being opened, please register quickly because sometimes numbers are limited, and there has been great demand.

We hold two sets of tryouts each year. The September tryouts are for all levels of play, but are primarily to stream players into National / Provincial / Regional levels. Those who are not selected may be directed to our local recreational and learn-to-play programs, although tryouts are not required for those levels and youngsters and teenagers can signup directly for those programs. By late December, some of our regional players may be selected to form a provincial team. By the end of January, all national and provincial level rosters are finalized, which means the January tryouts are only for the second half of the Regional Competitive Training Centre (CTC) – this is the last opportunity until September to gain a spot in our competitive training stream. Registration for September tryouts opens on August 1st. Registration for January tryouts opens December 26th. For more info, visit our TRYOUTS page.
