Visual uniformity across our three competitive levels (regional, provincial and national) is extremely important. All teams are required to adhere to Maverick Volleyball rules for on-court clothing (TeamWear: Game jersey, Game Shorts, Game Socks).
Teams will not use the Maverick logo on anything without written permission based on submitting a design to the Director of Branding.
• GAME SHORTS (supplied by the Club)
All game shorts are club-supplied. Both the shorts and the crest must be maintained in very good condition (not old or stretched out or damaged) or they must be replaced. Leggings for game play are allowed by all regulating bodies, and we will crest them for game play (small fee). Additional game shorts may be purchased from the Maverick store.
(Practice shorts are not monitored or regulated, just game shorts.)
• GAME SOCKS (supplied by the Club)
Each team may choose to play in either black or white, but all players must wear the same colour during any match. We provide socks (packs of 3 pairs of black Mizuno socks) in our uniform package, and players can be on-court in any plain socks of the same colour as the entire team. Additional sock 3-packs may be purchased from the Maverick store.
• GAME JERSEYS (supplied by the Club)
The large regulatory bodies (OVA, Volleyball Canada, USAV) have mandatory style requirements for jerseys, particularly libero contrast requirements. Number placement and size requirements for numbers are also clearly articulated (number outline thickness, size minimums (the number ‘0’ or ‘00’ are not allowed, for example).
Maverick jerseys comply with all regulations from OVA and VC (we received approval before going into production), and we have received an official waiver for our “jersey numbers” from USAV.
It is possible that our boys’ blacks and reds may cause concern in the U.S. so if those are your only two options, please have your clothing coordinator reach out to us – early – for loaner libero jerseys if you are planning on competing in the U.S.
Replacements (for lost or damaged jerseys) can be purchased on the Maverick store. Up to two weeks required for customization.
• PRACTICE SHIRTS (supplied by the Club)
Only “club-issued” or “branding-approved” practice or warmup shirts may be worn on-court during tournaments or special games. The tryout shirt plus practice shirts provided by the Club gives colour selections for coaches to assign (if they so choose). Additional practice shirts may be purchased from the Maverick store.
• CAPTAIN’S BAR (National or Provincial)
Volleyball Canada specifies the captain’s bars to be 8cm x 2cm but we have yet to experience any officials measuring the bar. Tape may be used, but it tends to loosen with sweat.
• GAME SHOES (any brand)
Must be clean and dry with non-marking soles.
• ARM SLEEVES (any brand, we do supply)
OVA: arm sleeves must be solid colour
VC and U.S.: arm sleeves must be plain and all must be the same colour.
Maverick: we prefer all-black arm sleeves for the sake of uniformity and to avoid conflict. Arm sleeves can be purchased on the Maverick store.
• COMPRESSION SHIRTS (any brand)
OVA: No rules yet for compression shirt or t-shirts under jerseys
VC and U.S.: Visible compression shirts (if not completely hidden by the jersey) must all be the same colour.
Maverick: Each team must ensure they are compliant with the above rules, depending what level they are playing. If being worn, we suggest teams wear white with the white jersey and black with the black or red jersey. We do not supply.
• KNEEPADS (any brand, we do supply)
No rules for kneepads (preference is to have all the same colour on the court). Kneepads and sliders may be purchased from the Maverick store.
• BACKPACKS & DUFFEL BAGS (we supply logo’ed options)
An exclusive Maverick-designed backpack is available on the Mav Store (up to two weeks required for customization). We encourage teams to have a full set, especially national teams (available on the uniform app). We also sell two sizes of crested duffel bags. Putting the Maverick logo on a non-Maverick backpack is strictly forbidden and removal will be required.
• OFF-COURT CLOTHING
Teams can design their own clothing – without a maverick logo – for wear during practices or during off-court time at tournaments, however the design must be approved by the Branding Director. Contact store@maverickvolleyball.ca to request approval of your project.
• USE OF MAVERICK LOGOS
Unapproved use of the Maverick logo (Bull or Big M or name Maverick) on any items is strictly forbidden and may result in sanctions. Approval is a simple process and may be requested by contacting the Branding Director chris@maverickvolleyball.ca with a mockup of your project.
