Are you between the ages of 16 and 18 and looking for a new way to stay involved in volleyball?

Maverick Volleyball’s mixed-gender Learn-to-Referee program provides young athletes with the training, mentorship and practical experience needed to work toward becoming an OVA-certified Local Referee.

Beginning in November 2026, participants will take part in classroom theory, hands-on court sessions and a practical evaluation planned for February 6, 2027. Continued mentorship will also be available through May 2027.

WHAT PARTICIPANTS WILL RECEIVE:

  • In-class theory and on-court practical training
  • Mentorship from a Level 3 or higher referee
  • Registration for the OVA theory exam and practical evaluation
  • A rulebook, Fox 40 whistle, referee logbook and program materials
  • A Maverick Learn-to-Referee T-shirt
  • Continued support following certification

Beyond learning how to officiate, participants will build confidence, leadership, communication, decision-making and conflict-resolution skills while gaining meaningful work experience.

Space is limited. Candidates will be selected through a questionnaire and, if required, a short interview.
