Our Board of Directors provides strategic leadership and governance for Ottawa's largest volleyball club. Comprised of dedicated volunteers with diverse expertise, the Board oversees our not-for-profit and for-profit operations, ensures we stay true to our mission, and guides the development of programs that have made us one of Canada's premier volleyball organizations. Through their commitment and vision, the Board helps create opportunities for athletes at every level while fostering the values that define our club culture.
Kerry founded the Maverick Volleyball Club in 1985, a year after he began a 29-year teaching career at Colonel By Secondary School. He officially retired as President of Maverick Volleyball in August 2025 at the Club’s 40th Anniversary celebration. He will assume the role of Chairman of the Board while also serving as the Board Representative for Athlete Relations and Conflict Management, ensuring that the athlete voice remains central to our governance.
Greg brings to the Board a combination of executive level governance and operational expertise to strengthen Maverick’s organizational structure, financial stewardship, and long-term strategic execution. Greg’s connection to Maverick Volleyball spans four decades, beginning as a member of the club’s inaugural athlete cohort in 1985.
After serving in the Canadian Armed Forces, he returned to Ottawa and has coached with Maverick since 2000 across all age categories, bringing additional experience from provincial programs in Nova Scotia and Ontario, as well as Colonel By Secondary School. A former athlete at Royal Roads Military College and Royal Military College and a certified Regional official, Greg also served eight years on the Ontario Volleyball Board, including as Vice President of Operations.
He retired in 2023 as President of Market Maker Agriculture and, in September 2025, steps into the role of Executive Director, leading Maverick’s day-to-day operations and continued growth.
John Nguyen brings over two decades of leadership, technical expertise, and high-performance insight to the Maverick Board. A dedicated member of the club for 23 years, he transitioned from athlete to coach in 2001 and has since led across both boys’ and girls’ programs, including 10 seasons coaching 15U and 16U teams at the National level. A trained Performance Coach under the National Coaching Certification Program and a Volleyball Canada coach evaluator, John contributes deep knowledge of athlete development, coach mentorship, and national standards. He has served Maverick as Assistant and Head Coach, Mentor Coach, General Manager, and Technical Committee member, while also holding governance roles as Vice-President and President of Region 6 and currently serving on the Finance and Audit Committee. His experience with Team Ontario, the 2025 Canada Games Team, and Team Canada U17—qualifying for the 2024 U17 FIVB World Championships—adds a national performance lens to board discussions.
