Maverick Volleyball Launches New Learn to Referee Program – Starting Fall 2025

Maverick Volleyball is excited to introduce its Learn to Referee (LTR) Program for athletes aged 16-18. This 12-week pilot program, beginning September 26, 2025, will train and certify 16 participants as Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) Local Officials, with continued mentorship through May 2026.

Designed for athletes stepping away from competitive play or those seeking a new role in the volleyball community, the program offers:

• Hands-on learning with small groups (1 mentor for every 4 participants) led by experienced Level 3 referees with years of experience in officiating.

• In-house training combining classroom sessions, on-court practice, and ongoing mentoring – no need to source your own certification clinic.

• Personal growth in leadership, confidence, decision-making, and communication.

• Part-time income potential after certification and an expanded connection to the volleyball community.

The LTR Program aligns with Maverick’s commitment to fostering respect, service, inclusion, and “volleyball for life.” Successful candidates will receive a starter kit (rule book, whistle, logbook, t-shirt, and learner-centric curriculum), in-depth training, and guided entry into officiating.

Application Process:
Interested athletes will complete an online questionnaire and 15-minute interview. Priority is given to those choosing to leave playing or who are released from a team and decide not to play elsewhere. The registration link and details on how to apply will follow once registration opens (August 24).
