Tryouts – January

Registrations for the Winter 2025 Regional Training Centre (RTC) is now open! You may click the link to REGISTER HERE.

For New Families. We have a Virtual Parent Town Hall and Q&A session that goes over the tryout process and information. The link for the recording can be found HERE.

Deadlines. The Early Bird discount deadline is on December 20th at 11:59 pm EST, and the tryout registration closes on Jan 5th at 11:59 pm EST. Athletes who register for the Early Bird will have their T-Shirt size request guaranteed. Late entries are not accepted.

Ages. The RTC is for 11U – 18U athletes (2007-2014)

Estimated Tryout Spots per RTCs. To be announced by mid-December.

Multiple sessions. There are multiple tryout sessions for each age group and gender. Athletes should attend all sessions for their age group to ensure they can be properly and fairly evaluated. Physical Testing and on-court assessments are a critical part of tryouts (check schedule for your age group).

Safety Net. Those who are not selected for the Regional Training Centre, are not guaranteed any spots in our learn-to-play or recreational division. The LTP and Rec programs typically sell out very quickly, so, if the athlete is passionate about continuing at another level, we recommend registering for a program as well as for tryouts. If the athlete gets an offer for the Regional Training Centre, all costs for the LTP/Rec program will be refunded.

Regular (mid-January) $95 +HST (dates TBD)

Tryouts will be held (tentatively) on Jan 11th and 18th in the East End. The Winter 2025 RTC tryout schedule will be posted and emailed the week of Jan 6th.

THE PROCESS

IMPORTANT: Make sure your registration information includes a valid email address that you check regularly.

Once you register for tryouts, your email address becomes part of our communication network through TeamSnap. Make sure you include any @maverickvolleyball.ca email addresses plus <donotreply@email.teamsnap.com> to your trusted contact list, so messages from us don’t get dumped into your junk folder.

As we get closer to the tryout date, we will provide current tryout numbers and spots available for the different 2025 Training Centre groups.

Registration

Do not register the same athlete for more than one age group. The designated age category is based on a player’s birth date, however, an extended date range allows some players to try to play up or down a level, based on the best fit for athlete development. During tryouts, your coach can make recommendations if they feel a player should be in a more beneficial age group than the year of birth indicates.

11U – born in 2014 or after
12U – born in 2013
13U – born in 2012
14U – born in 2011
15U – born in 2010
16U – born in 2009
17U – born in 2008
18U – born in 2007

Schedules & Locations

Tryouts will be held (tentatively) between Jan 11th to Jan 22nd in the East End. The Winter 2025 RTC tryout schedule will be posted and emailed the week of Jan 6th.

Most Groups: Jan 11th and 18th
17/18UG RTC: Jan 13 and 20th
17/18UB RTC: Jan 15th and 22nd

The 2025 schedule will be added here when ready. It will be a live document, so check back for updates in the days leading up to January tryouts.

Successful contenders will be expected to attend two practices per week. The first four weeks will consist of intense coaching and drills with some scrimmages (2 sessions/week). The next eight weeks consist of one practice session and one competition day.

Schedules and locations for weekly sessions vary by age group, but will generally be in the East End.

TRYOUT REFUNDS

We realize that family schedules sometimes conflict, or that injuries may happen at an inopportune time, forcing athletes to forgo tryouts.

Full refunds are available until two weeks before tryouts, no refunds after that.
