Mavs 4 Fun – May 28th

Everyone is welcome to the 2nd annual Mavs 4 Fun Spring edition. Sunday May 28th. This year we have 6 courts, more teams, 3 categories and lots of prizes!

All food donations will be brought to the Ottawa Food Bank – the more the better.

Gather your friends and family – this event is for everyone!

Registration is $120 per team. Food donations from teams and their fans will be brought to the Ottawa Food Bank – the more the better.

TOURNAMENT DIVISIONS

Div 1: Youth & Family

This division is designed for families that want to have some fun and are learning how to play the game. The Youth and Family division will run from 9 am to 12:40 pm. There will be a Captain’s meeting at 8:45 am.

Div 2: Competitive

Designed for recreation-level players, those who played only in high school. The Competitive division will run from 9 am to 12:40 pm. There will be a Captain’s meeting at 8:45 am.

Div 3: Elite

This division is designed for club, post-secondary, national and international players. The Elite division will run from 1 pm to 5 pm. There will be a Captain’s meeting at 12:45 pm.

GAMEPLAY RULES

• Guaranteed 5 games
• Net height is women’s (2.24m)
• Bring your own snacks and drinks
• No outdoor footwear, food or drink (water is the exception) allowed in the gym
• Lots of prizes and draws throughout the day.
• Game ball will be available at each court when your team is scheduled to play
• Be courteous to the refs, scorekeepers (who are volunteers) as well as opposing players; remember, this is for fun!

POOL PLAY

• Timed games (20 for pool play) – including an optional 3 min warmup
• No cap on score
• If the game is tied at the end of time, one final rally is played.
• Elite and Competitive Divisions must have two girls on the floor at all times
• All guys 14 yrs and older must hit back row only and may only block other males
• Teams are assigned 1 point for every win, 0 for a loss
• If two teams have the same amount of points at the end of pool play, the team with the best ratio of total points for and against will be ranked higher

PLAYOFFS

Youth & Family  (09:00am – 12:40pm)

• All teams advance to the quarterfinals.
• Winners advance to the semis, losers get one more game.
• Winners of semis play for gold, losers of semis play for bronze

Competitive  (09:00am – 12:40pm)

• Top 2 teams from each pool advance to the quarterfinals.
• The next 8 teams play for the chance to advance to the quarterfinals
• Winners of the quarters will advance to the semis. Losers will enter a consolation bracket.
• Winners of semis play for gold. Losers of semis play for bronze. Winners of consolation play for 5th and losers of consolation play for 7th

Elite  (1:00pm – 5:00pm)

• Top teams from each pool, plus the next highest ranked team with the best games/won ratio advance to Champion semis. Top teams play for Gold, Silver, Bronze and Antique Bronze.
• The next 4 highest ranked teams play in the Consolation semis. Winners of these semis play for 5th and 6th. Losers play for 7th and 8th.
• The final 4 teams play in the Consolation semis. Winners of these semis play for 9th and 10th. Losers play for 11th and 12th.
