I actually played football in high school and university. After that, as an adult, I played rugby. At around 28, I took up volleyball as a competitive athlete and eventually coached. I currently still play coed indoors and coed beach.
Have coached high school boys for 20 years (city div 2 champs) and have coached Mavs girls for 3 years (13u OVA Gold).
I LOVE volleyball. I love that it is both physical and cerebral. I love that it is a team sport where every player has a chance to make a difference. I love that it is a lifetime sport that can be played competitively for decades. What I love most abut volleyball is that every and any serve could be the chance to make a play of a lifetime. That moment could be the best you've ever done. Best ace serve. Best hit. Best block. Best dig. Longest rally. A diving save that no one thought was possible. However, as football coach Vince Lombardi once said “Everyone has the will to win but very few have the will to prepare to win.” Those hours and reps in practice are where the glory and success are created, not on game day.
