The Maverick High Performance Program was designed in consultation with leading Canadian volleyball experts. It is based on leading-edge athlete development research and is proven to provide maximum physical and mental development for young athletes. In combination with team fortitude and cohesion, the program aims to maximize each athlete's individual potential through the addition of supplemental practice and training methodologies (such as nutrition, mental and strength/agility training)..
HP is a solid launch pad for a motivated youth towards a college, university or national volleyball career. At the fundamental level, High Performance programs are based on a commitment by athletes, parents, coaches and trainers to fully address all aspects of competition and training that lead to an athlete performing to their highest potential.
"HP is an innovative training approach to volleyball that permits young athletes to maximize their development. I strongly recommend the program for high school athletes." – Lionel Woods, Head Coach, University of Ottawa Gee Gees
For the athlete, being part of a High Performance program means following a plan that will encourage you perform to your maximum. It means constant pursuit of excellence – on and off the court. It means following all the right steps to achieve your goals, whether it be to play at the College, University, Olympic or Professional level. Being a High Performance Athlete means maintaining an unprecedented level of commitment to yourself, your goals, your team and your coaches.
HP teams compete more often (which may include interprovincial, national and international events) – this requires a higher level of time and travel commitment, and is geared for a progression to varsity post-secondary recruitment. An extremely high percentage of our HP players are selected to varsity teams at colleges and university level.
HP Girls teams: 13U, 14U, 15U, 16U, 17U, 18U.
HP Boys teams: 13/14U, 15U, 16U, 17U, 18U.
TEAM FEES
As a non-profit organization, Maverick team fees are cost-recovery only. Maverick HP fees are set by each individual team (within Club parameters) and must achieve a zero-based budgeting outcome at the end of the season. Team budgets are set by the coaching staff in cooperation with, and approved by that team's parent group. Budgets include OVA registration fees, all tournament entry fees (including Nationals and international or interprovincial play), travel and accommodation to all tournaments, practice requirements (gyms, balls, equipment), team gear, coaching, supplemental training (strength and conditioning, nutrition, sport psychology experts), plus one ticket to the year-end celebration. At the end of the season, budgets will be reconciled and any remaining balance will returned to the parents (or shortages will be invoiced).
HIGHLIGHTS
- Team building exercises;
- Competition at OVA events and additional selected tournaments across Ontario, Quebec and the U.S. (to be approved by parent group);

Goal Setting Instruction & Monitoring – Athletes will learn to create a long-term vision for both their individual and team goals. The program will develop the athlete's ability to monitor and set short-term goals, which lead into the long term vision. Our coaches will continually challenge the thought process around each athlete's goal setting. Our HP program will follow the Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely goal-setting concept.
Academic progress monitoring – Being strong academically affords you the time you need to train and compete. Our academic monitoring program ensures that you stay ahead and study sessions and tutoring may be introduced where needed.
Competitive Experience – In the HP program you will compete locally, provincially and nationally to develop a 'winning attitude'.
Nutrition and Life-Balancing – HP athletes learn to balance family, friends, relationships, school and sport. Good planning and setting proper expectations makes it all possible, a skill that is taught in the HP Program. Athletes are coached in what is needed to fuel the HP Athlete. Food selection, sample menus, fast food management, preparing for competition, and supplements are some of the topics that will be addressed.
Mental Training – Volleyball has been said to be 90% mental, 10% physical. The Maverick HP Program addresses the much-needed mental aspect of high performance with professional training sessions including visualization training and mental preparation training.
Intense Physical Strength and Endurance Training – Being in top physical shape gives the HP Athlete the best opportunities to succeed. The year-long training program ensures HP athletes attain and maintain top physical shape while allowing them to peak at the key times.
Technical Training – Coaches work with the team three to four practices per week, plus individual learning sessions to provide athletes the training they need to perform skills correctly and at their potential.
