Maverick athletes make up one third of Team Ontario for the 2013 Canada Games

2013 / 05 / 20

Congratulations to the four athletes on their selection to Team Ontario (Canada Games):

  • Sophie Carpentier (Mavs'12), playing at Trinity Western University (CIS 2013 Bronze medalist) and Team Canada U23
  • Alix Durivage (Mavs'11), playing at the University of Ottawa (2013 OUA Champions and CIS 4th)
  • Vicky Savard (Mavs'11), University of Montreal (2013 RSEQ Champions) and Women's Senior National B Team
  • Kaly Soro (Mavs'13), committed to the University of Ottawa for the fall of 2013 and recently finished tied for 5th in Canada at the 18U National Championships.

Sophie, Alix and Vicky have represented Ontario on numerous occasions but this summer will be Kaly's first opportunity to represent Ontario. She made the team as an under aged athlete and is up to two years younger than some of her team mates.

These four athletes will be training all summer to prepare for the Canada Games (largest multi sport competition in Canada) in Sherbrooke, PQ. The Canada Games happens every four years and prepares the up and coming athletes in Canada for major international competitions.

From recent memory there has never been a large number of athletes from Ottawa yet alone one Club from Ottawa that comprised a third of Team Ontario's (Canada Games) roster.

Prior to this year the last Maverick athlete to represent Ontario at the Canada Games was Rex Fenton (Mavs'08) who wore the red/white and black for Ontario at the 2009 Canada Games in PEI.

We're proud of you! Go Mavs Go!
