Happy New Year

2013 / 01 / 01

With a great showing at competitive team try-outs we are fortunate to be fielding 19 teams this season and are again one of the largest clubs in Ontario. Unique this season is the formation of two 14u and two 15u Boys teams. The first time in club history that we see more teams at the entry level than above on the boys side of the ledger.

On the girls front a wealth of talent exists across all ages as usual, but of note are the 3 teams entered in both the 15u and 16u age groups. A mini volleyball-boom for us to be sure. With great coaching and a hugely competitive standard to be reached the future is of course as bright as diamonds.

On the developmental side we see that for the first time ever the club is running 3 Young Mav locations. While traditional hotspots like Louis Riel and Franco Cité were filled to the brim, our initial foray into Barrhaven at St Joseph CHS had a positive impact and is growing again for the 2013 session. Outstanding lead coaches in the likes of veteran Greg Skotnicki, 16u HP coach Nick Krawchuk and former Olympian Paul Gratton gave our young fledglings a wealth of knowledge and a great head start on their skill development.

Meanwhile the House league for High School age recreational players was once again a hit. Good signs all around for the game in Ottawa. Head Clinician Pat Corriveau has once again brought an outstanding program to the forefront at Lois Riel on Weds. nights.

With a spectacular guest speaker line-up for our highlight Mavs Coaches day on the 1st of December we gave our coaches and others a nudge in the right direction on new ideas. While others improved their NCCP certification level in order to help bring their training and playing environment to the next level for their players. By all accounts a hugely successful and innovative idea by the club.

So ... Where is 2013 going to take us? Well just jump on board and we will give you the ride of your life to places like Regina, Edmonton, Calgary, Sherbrooke and of course the usual RIM park stop in Waterloo. Get ready for a super spring with the best volleyball club in Ontario.
