Maverick alumni contributions on nationally ranked programs

2012 / 10 / 25

On the Women’s side, the top ranked Trinity Western Spartans have Sophie Carpentier (Mavs’12) on their roster. Sophie recently returned from representing Canada along with her Spartan team mates at the U23 NORCECA Championships. Sophie had worked her way into the Spartan starting line up leading her team in points and kills until she fell to illness.

Sophie is recovering well and started to train again in the hopes of regaining her starting position on the team. Her team competes in arguably the toughest conference in Canada, the Canada West conference, as the top three teams in Canada are from that conference and five of the top ten are from Canada West.

The 6th ranked University of Ottawa Gee Gees have seven Maverick alumni on their roster of twelve athletes. Of the seven alumni, five start for the team:

 ·         Alix Durivage (Mavs’11)

·         Kelsie English (Mavs’10)

·         Myriam English (Mavs’10)

·         Stephanie Theiler (Mavs’10)

·         Kathryn Weihrer (Mavs’08)

Kayla Bell-Hammond (Mavs’10) is currently injured and first-year Gee Gee Veronique Caya (Mavs’12) is adjusting to CIS volleyball.

The 8th ranked University of Toronto Blues has Charlotte Sider (Mavs’10), a 2012 OUA First Team athlete, leading the way for them.

On the Men’s side, the 4th ranked McMaster Marauders are lead by OUA Second Team All Star, 2011 CIS All Rookie Team and recent silver medalist for Team Ontario, Jori Mantha (Mavs’10- National Champion 2009).

The 5th ranked Universite de Laval have Jeremie Lortie (Mavs’09 – National Champion 2009), his younger brother Bruno Lortie (Mavs’12 – National Jr. Team alternate) and Patrick Goulet (Mavs’12 and 2012 Team Ontario). The team just returned from an exbition series against Penn State and a Russian Club Team. Best of luck to these athletes and all Maverick alumni in their upcoming season.
