14U Girls Program - New Info for athletes and parents

2013 / 10 / 02

In an effort to ensure that as many of the 57 athletes who attended the 14U Girls team tryouts on Sunday have a place to develop this season the Club is happy to announce that we have secured a third head coach and will be introducing a new program called The Training Centre.

As mentioned at the parent meeting the Club will select the following number of athletes:

Team 1: Comprised of the top 10-12 athletes who will train with an eye on joining the Club’s High Performance Program for the 2014/2015 season. Volleyball training will be three times a week along with a player led and coach monitored on-line strength and conditioning program.

This team will compete in the Ontario Volleyball Association and other select tournaments.

Team 2 and Team 3: The next 20-24 athletes who may be new to the sport but show considerable promise for the future. These athletes will train twice a week on court. The goal for these athletes is to compete for a 15U HP roster spot in 2014/2015

The two teams will be divided up as equally as possible given skill and geographic location to where the athlete resides.

These teams will compete in the Ontario Volleyball Association and may participate in other select tournaments.

Training Centre:

The remaining athletes (spots only  limited to gym availability) will be offered a spot in the newly formed Training Centre. These athletes will be training twice a week but their competition schedule will be local and/or requiring only day travel.

The goal of this program is to provide regular training for the athletes without the high cost of traveling to tournaments in Ontario. The program will be led by long time Maverick coach, Nick Krawchuk. Nick has led the Young Mavs program, March Break and Summer Camps for the Club as well as coaching in our High Performance program. Last season, his first as a Head Coach in HP, Nick guided the 16U Girls to a 5th place (tie) finish in Premier at the 16U Provincial Championships.

We thank the athletes and parents for their patience as the Club was securing coaches for these programs. We feel that these options allow close to 60 females athletes who are interested in the sport an opportunity to train and develop a life long passion for the game.

Practice times and locations for these teams will be announced at a later date.

Tryouts continue as planned at Franco Cote on Tuesday October 1, 2013 from 6PM to 8PM.
