Coaching with the Mavericks

Maverick Volleyball is accepting applications for coaching staff !

Head coach, assistant coach, and apprentice coach positions are available at all age levels.

The Competitive Divisions participate in local (less than 2-hours away) competitions. The travelling teams selected in December will go on to play in Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) tournaments and may compete in Provincials in April/May.

Our Competitive and High Performance teams involve different levels of time and travel commitment. The level and age group will factor into the number of weeknight / weekend paractices and the number of tournaments you will compete in.

Maverick Recreational programs include Summer and March Break camps, Learn-to-play seasonal sessions, and Teen play opportunities. None of our "rec" programs require travel outside of the city.

Day Camps are 1-week sessions located at various west, central and east  locations. Summer Camps start in June and end in August (if available, you can choose the weeks and locations that best suit you). Seasonal 8-week sessions are once per week (some are weeknights, others on weekends) – these include both learn-to-play and Teen League sessions.

RECREATIONAL (no tryouts, no travel)

  1. Developmental: Coaches at this level work with athletes who are just learning the sport and are generally aged between 9 and 14. There is an intense focus on the basic skills of the game in a fun and enjoyable atmosphere. Developmental Programs are structured over an 6 to 8 week period with 90-120 minute sessions each week.
  2. House League: This program is designed for athletes who already have intermediate to advanced skills who wish to play once a week and practice once a week. Coaches in the House League Program will spend less time on basic skills and more on game play. Programs run for 8-10 weeks with sessions one time a week.

COMPETITIVE (tryouts and travel)

  1. Competitive: Our Competitive Program involves practices twice a week and tournament play throughout the local area for the first three months. The season runs from September to May but the Training Centres run from October through December and then January through March. Tournament participation is within local competitions until travel teams are chosen. Those will participate in Ontario Volleyball Association competitions culminating in Provincial Championships.
  2. High Performance: Coaches involved in the High Performance Program can expect to eat and sleep volleyball. This program requires the highest dedication as it is the training grounds for our high performance athletes and continues 365 days a year in various forms. Travel can be expected provincially, nationally and internationally.

The first step in joining our team, is to complete this application form:

Benefits of Coaching

Coaches in the Maverick Volleyball Club are essential to the growth and development of the sport in our area. Coaches will receive club apparel based on the program they are coaching in. Coaches will be compensated based on certification level and experience. Advancing your certification level is an expense paid by the club as we feel a key to our success is investing in our coaches. If you're not certified, don't worry. We'll direct you to a certification course.

Parents Interested In Coaching

Parents who are interested in getting involved as coaches are encouraged to do so. We offer additional benefits to athletes whose parents coach in the club as well.
