Lortie makes the best of his opportunities.

2012 / 08 / 02

Selected to Team Ontario for the second consecutive summer, Bruno Lortie was now a veteran in the program and looked to for the qualities that helped him win the 2012 Ken Davies Award. Bruno was asked to step up as Captain of one of Ontario's split squad 18u teams at the recent 20u NTCC tournament in Gatineau.

Once again Bruno lead by expample and determination. A tough run for the team in a tough pool meant his team didn't have an opportunity a a medal after only two rounds of play. This didn't stop Bruno from working at the second goal for all 1993 and younger players. Team Canada Junior Men's team was to be selected from this event and Bruno had a chance to still improve his game.

When the final chips fell things did not seem too rosey as Bruno's team finished low and he was not selected to the competition roster for the team. A double whammy for sure, for someone who has seen so much success in his young career. But the silver linig came when Coach Hoag and his staff including JMNT coach Dave Preston, asked Bruno to join the team during the training camp for the upcoming Norceca event.

Some might have resented the slight from selection but Bruno saw this as yet again another chance to be in a gym with the best players from his age or a year older and work at getting better. Something he has done since 2009

With a career upcoming at a prestigious program such as the Laval Rouge et Or, no doubt this decision will pay off for both Bruno, coach Pascal Clément as well as his future team mates; including big brother Jeremie (Mavs '09).

Once again setting the example that training is every bit as important as competition in the development of a young player, a principle adhered to by this club and it's coaches. Good Luck Bruno and thanks for all your years of dedication to our program.
