Important Message on Youth Development Programs and Camps Re: COVID-19

2020 / 03 / 13

Like everyone else in our community The Ottawa Maverick Volleyball Club is following the daily updates of the emergence of coronavirus (COVID-19). We felt it would be prudent to let our stakeholders know we are committed to ensuring your safety and wellbeing with respect to events that the Mavs will be running.

For that reason we will be immediately canceling the following:

  1. March Break Camps at Immaculata CHS and CC Mer Bleue

  2. Winter Development Programs scheduled for Sunday March 15th at ESP Louis Riel, St. Peter’s, Immaculata, Mother Teresa and All Saints CHS.

We are offering full refunds on any cancelations that we have to make due to COVID-19. However, if you are planning to continue to participate in a future Maverick Development Program or Camp we would like to offer you a 110% credit to your Maverick account in lieu of a refund, as a token for your support.

Please direct all communication on registrations, cancelations and refunds to the Director of Youth Development Programs, Ian Whamond - ian@maverickvolleyball.ca

We will continue to  monitor the situation closely and work with our various event partners, as well as follow the lead of government agencies, with your wellbeing as our highest priority. Decisions on Spring and Summer Development Programs scheduling will be made going forward.

We would like to share the following information to help you as you plan any upcoming involvement with any of our camps and programs

Your safety comes first

We are taking proactive steps to maintain a healthy and safe environment for everyone who directly or indirectly attends a Maverick program on-site.

To this end, the below precautionary and response measures will be employed to provide a safe and clean environment as possible:

  • Enhanced equipment cleaning and disinfecting policies have been implemented. We will sanitize balls and equipment a minimum of twice per day.

  • A sanitation station will be present on site, as well as providing additional soap and regular breaks to allow for hand washing.

  • Coaches will discourage any contact between participants such as high-fives and hugging. At day camps, participants will be discouraged to share food as well as water bottles.

  • We are asking anyone who has had contact with family or friends who have flu- like symptoms or who have travelled out of the country to one of the current “hot-spots” of COVID-19 to self-quarantine and not attend any Mavs events. Accomodations, including refunds of fees, will be administered for anyone who feels they should remove themselves from a registered program/camp.

  • Maverick Volleyball has put a crisis team together to ensure we have access to all current information and that we are able to share it with all our stakeholders and quickly act upon it as it is received.

Information and resources

The most accurate and up-to-date local information on the coronavirus (COVID-19) can be found on the Ottawa Public Health website here: https://www.ottawapublichealth.ca/en/public-health-topics/novel-coronavirus.aspx

Ottawa Public Health recommends you:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, or use hand sanitizer

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth unless you have just washed your hands with soap

  • Cover your cough and sneeze with a tissue or into your arm, not your hand

  • If possible, stay home if you are sick

  • Avoid visiting people in hospitals or long-term care centres if you are sick.

Please note that attendance to any camps/programs that you have signed up for will be considered optional as we navigate through the current situation with COVID-19. Withdrawals and refunds will be allowed at any time.

Thank you for your continued support. We will keep you updated throughout this changing situation.
