The 16u Age group will be in good hands with a couple of old rivals and friends leading the charge with each gender. The age group will be training in a clinic setting to start the year off and both Colin Walker and Kerry MacLean are well versed in that style of coaching. Meanwhile for the 16u girls comp team, new comer. Victor Joly will bring a fresh voice to the club and we want to welcome him on board with the hopes of many good years to come.
Head Coach – 16u Blackjacks
Colin Walker- Coach Walker is another 30 year veteran to coaching demonstrating even more the depth of experience the Maverick Club currently enjoys. Colin has vast wealth of experience at all levels of the game. Colin is another educator by profession and has coached with several clubs in his history, he also guided two very successful H.S. programs to Ofsaa gold and is a promoter of all aspects of athlete development.
Having always trained his athletes in a High Performance environment coach Walker is entering his 6th season with our program and continues to push it forward.
Head Coach – 16u Gamblers
Victor Joly is a retired CF member who is returning to the Ottawa volleyball scene after 3+ decades around the world. In that time he has worked both with teams in the Canadian Forces and in local CEGEP and Quebec provincial teams.
Victor began his volleyball journey at Gloucester H.S. and played mens AA volleyball for the only club in the city known as Onion Patch. He was CF provincial player & coach where he was a three time National champion.
He is a level 2 coach where at the college and provincial level he worked with College Sept-iles AA men. Jeux de Quebec women's AAA
Victor hopes to bring a dynamic style combined with technical detail to the girls program and we are all excited to see where he takes us.
Head Coach – 16u Longhorns
Kerry MacLean beginning his 39th year of coaching MacLean has been at the helm of both men's and women's teams with the club and at the high school, regional, Team Ontario and CIS level over that span. His charges have gone on to win many team titles and individual accolades at every level.
As a player MacLean began his career with Colonel By S.S. and was a three time OVHSAA all-star he went on to play 4 seasons with the McMaster Marauders. During both of those playing stints Kerry discovered that coaching was in his blood and whenever possible took on teams at the high school and club level during his non-training hours. His coaching philosophy over time has evolved along with the changes in the sport. Now considered to be a top developmental coach MacLean will be given the challenge of taking a group that is already provincial force and try to elevate their play even further.
